Source BioScience unveils new Blood & Tissue Serology facility on Kingsway Business Park

International genetics analysis and diagnostics business, Source BioScience, is the latest organisation to choose Rochdale for its manufacturing operations. The organisation hosted a grand opening of a new state-of-the-art facility at its premises on Kingsway Business Park on Wednesday, 11th February 2015.

Source BioScience’s decision to establish this important new facility in Rochdale reflects the considerable confidence it places in the borough’s growth plans and in the skilled local workforce. It also recognises Rochdale’s key location along three junctions of the M62 motorway.

Opportunities for growth
The new facility will be used to manufacture Source BioScience’s portfolio of Blood & Tissue Serology products for its UK-wide customer base.  Source BioScience, however, has a strong belief that its Blood & Tissue Serology technologies and services are equally suited to the needs of several European markets – as well as further afield.  As a result, the capabilities of the Rochdale facility will also be sufficient to fulfil such opportunities.

Extensive capabilities
Purpose-developed for the production of Blood and Tissue Serology products, Source BioScience’s new Rochdale manufacturing base incorporates industry leading facilities, enhanced laboratory process areas and extensive support for process equipment. A scalable product development area has also been created to provide additional capacity for increased capability.

Key features of the Rochdale facility include a purpose-built laboratory area with Filtered Reverse Osmosis (RO) water supplies, Class 5 Laminar Flow units and a high capacity, 900-litre-per-hour processing plant with a pumped system to process areas.

Other facilities include: a Class 7 ‘positive pressure’ clean room incorporating HEPA filtration units, multiple filtration points to all product process areas and UV filters to process lines. The plant also has 316 purpose-designed stainless steel process tanks including a PLC-based automatic control system incorporating multiple security levels and programmable agitation systems.

Enhanced support
The establishment of the Rochdale site within the group’s manufacturing portfolio also offers access to an increased level of technical, quality and logistical resources. Source BioScience has ongoing investment plans for its new Rochdale facility and more news will follow as the business continues to expand.

Already home to leading names such as Asda, Argos, JD Sports and Yodel, other organisations who have recently announced plans to open for business in Rochdale include:  Costa Coffee and car care products business, Tetrosyl Limited.
