Colour and sound spectacular coming to Rochdale Town Hall Square
Posted by on 11 Jun 2025

Rochdale Town Hall square will explode in a riot of colour next month, as one of its most popular events returns for its second year.
Colourscape is a giant inflatable structure of colour and light, which people can walk around and immerse themselves in, and it will be returning to Rochdale Town Hall for two days only in July.
The incredible installation has already wowed audiences in London, China, Amsterdam and Iceland and over 850 local residents went to Colourscape when it made its first appearance in the borough last summer.
Variously described as ‘being wrapped in a rainbow’ and ‘walking inside a sleeping giant’, the experience is a must see, with visitors walking through chambers of colour and light, while musicians and dancers lead them on a unique journey for the senses.
Colourscape will take place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July, from 11am to 4pm, with music playing between 11.30am and 3.30pm. Tickets are priced at £6 for adults and £4 for children and booking is essential.
There will be fun inside the town hall too, with a free colour themed arts workshop, alongside an interactive colour and light immersive experience. The activities inside the town hall are free and there is no need to book.
Colourscape, which is organised by the Eye Magic Trust, is part of the spectacular line up of festivals, live performances, exhibitions and art taking place across the borough during Rochdale’s year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture 2025–26. The title, awarded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, celebrates the borough’s rich history, creativity, talent and diverse arts scene.
Councillor Susan Smith, cabinet member for communities and cooperation at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “It’s great to see our wonderful town hall play host to yet another fabulous, family friendly event. Our year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture will be packed full of events like this and it’s a wonderful opportunity for the borough.
“Colourscape promises to be a real showstopper, with incredible visuals and music combining to create a unique experience for visitors. I would urge people to book tickets for this soon, as they tend to go fast.”
The event is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, as part of the wider lottery and council funded scheme to restore and reopen the town hall and make it more accessible and welcoming than ever before.
