Middleton
Middleton, alongside Heywood and the town of Rochdale itself, is one of
the borough’s key locations, lying in close proximity to Oldham, Bury
and the city of Manchester.
Middleton town centre is currently the focus of a major redevelopment with
a number of exciting projects creating a much improved environment and significantly
enhancing the retail and leisure facilities.
Middleton Arena, a new £13 million leisure and civic
centre in the heart of the town centre, provides superb art, sports and entertainment
facilities for the area. It includes two swimming pools, a sports hall, exercise
and fitness studios as well as a fully equipped performance and concert hall
with seating for 500.
A new Tesco Extra
store on the site of the old leisure centre will create around 220 new local jobs. Preparation work on the land has already started.
The Arena and store form part of masterplans to revive the town centre
and follows the £4.5 million replacement of the town’s bus station.
Over
the coming years other improvements will include a new post office and retail
development, improved office space, relocation of the market and creation
of a new public square and modern new housing.
