A brighter future for Inner Rochdale

Rochdale Development Agency is leading the way on developing plans to regenerate the areas of Milkstone & Deeplish, the Oldham Road corridor and Canal Basin.

A major consultation has been launched aimed at attracting significant investment into the area known as Inner Rochdale. The long term vision is to attract a development partner to increase the choice of modern housing, create new business and employment opportunities, attract new shops and improve the environment.

The Brighter Futures consultation will build upon earlier successful regeneration work to help deliver the scale of change that can turn the area around. We will be seeking the support of residents around changing the way land in the area is currently used.

A big opportunity

Securing a private developer would help make the most of the area’s strengths including its closeness to the town centre, railway station and Kingsway Business Park.

Whilst we aim to comprehensively regenerate the area over the next 10 to 15 years, it is about much more than bricks and mortar.

We will also look to create job opportunities, improve the local environment and tackle other issues such as health, crime, transport and anti-social behaviour.

The plan would link directly with and benefit from other regeneration activity in the area including:

  • Metrolink, providing a fast link between Rochdale and Manchester by 2012
  • Kingsway Business Park – more than 7,250 new jobs being created near junction 21 of the M62
  • Multi-million pound proposals to transform the town centre with a new retail heart, offices, housing and transport interchange
  • A new £10 million health centre on Maclure Road
