Middleton
Exciting plans for landscaping and remodelling Middleton Gardens are now being shown to the public.
£2m has been allocated for the scheme which will dramatically transform the main shopping area with new paving, seating, trees and grassed areas. One of the key components of the scheme is a gardens area which looks to the ‘Central Gardens’ of the 1930s for inspiration. Additionally the Market has thrived in Middleton Gardens since it moved there in January 2009 so has become integral to the scheme and new facilities will be provided for the stalls.
These proposals follow a successful public consultation exercise in October to ask local people what would like to see in the new scheme. There is still an opportunity to influence the scheme. One suggestion has been put forward to rebrand the scheme as ‘Central Gardens’, its historic name. or simply retaining “Middleton Gardens” for traffic signage.
It is proposed that the plans will be taken to Middleton Township for approval on February 16 with the works expected to be on site in early May.

Comments on the proposals should be emailed to middleton.masterplan@investinrochdale.co.uk by 31st January.
