Stephen Beckwith
Town Planner, Mouchel
Stephen Beckwith has over 30 years of town planning experience in the public
sector, mainly working with Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council. Stephen
qualified as a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1973 and worked
in the public sector until 2004. For over 16 years, he headed multi-disciplinary
local authority departments and was responsible for the Council’s town
planning functions. Throughout his career Stephen has managed and helped
implement a number of major projects, most recently Middleton Town Centre
Regeneration, and Kingsway Business Park.
He is currently a Consultant
Planner for the consulting and business services group Mouchel, and a Director
for the property development company Pennine Land. Mouchel specialises in
infrastructure and regeneration and works with Government agencies, local
authorities, Government regulated industries and the private sector to provide
safe, reliable roads and railways, education and civic infrastructure, clean
water and cost-effective energy.
Since joining the RDA board in 2005, Stephen
has used his local government experience to provide a link between the Council
and RDA on matters of town planning and regeneration. Stephen has been
involved with RDA since its initial stages, acting as company secretary when
it first launched in 1993.
Over the past five years, he has witnessed Rochdale
undergoing what he describes as “a renaissance period” of change,
and would like RDA to make a major contribution in dealing with poverty and
inadequate infrastructure in the borough. He expects that the energy of Rochdale
Development Agency will help bring about many more major regeneration projects
which will change the face of the borough. |
