Cllr Irene Davidson

Irene E Davidson was born 1951 and moved to Langley estate at the age of 5 years. She married Ralph in 1972 and moved to Milnrow after falling head over heels with the area. She has now lived there for 38 years.
After leaving school, Irene worked for the Co-operative movement for 22 years, starting with the Middleton and Tonge Co-operative Society. In 1988 she joined the Prison Service at Manchester (Strangeways) where she still works. Through the Prison Service she was encouraged to get involved in local politics and has never looked back.
First elected to Council in 1990, Irene has served the people of Milnrow and Newhey for 20 years. She has held a variety of positions on the Council, Chairman of Pennines Township and of Planning, Portfolio Holder for Adult Care, Children Schools and Families and Environment and Sustainability.
Having served as Mayor of the Borough in 2001/2002 and voted as the Leader of the Liberal Democrats in December 2009, Irene became the Leader of Rochdale Council on 13th January 2010, becoming the first ever Lady Leader of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council. |
