Chris Gilmartin
Managing Director, Gilwood Fabricators Ltd

Chris Gilmartin, Managing Director, Gilwood Fabricators LtdChris Gilmartin is the Managing Director of a family-owned, Heywood-based business called Gilwood Fabricators Ltd which specialises in stainless steel fabrications.

Chris has helped operate the business for over 30 years alongside his two brothers, and his portfolio of work includes manufacturing pressure vessels, process plant equipment, textile machines and packaged units.

The company hires a team of expert engineers and technicians to help deliver high-quality bespoke products to a range of local, nationally and internationally renowned businesses.

Chris chose to become a member of the RDA board in order to promote the views of the manufacturing industry.

His original role was as a representative for the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce but since the arrival of Carol Hopkins, Chris now speaks up for the views of local manufacturing businesses in Heywood.

Chris’s main concern has been to sustain the borough's manufacturing industry and to get involved with major projects such as Kingsway in the capacity of an RDA board member. He decided to become a board member to give something back to the community.

His vision for the Rochdale area would be to create a school of excellence such as a science park, linked to the university sector. Chris completed a management course at Manchester Polytechnic early on in his career, before recently attending Leeds University and gaining an Institute of Directors qualification.
