New housing developers appointed

Developers have been appointed to build two new housing schemes in Rochdale.

Rochdale Development Agency successfully managed a developer selection process on behalf of Rochdale Council, with Keepmoat Homes being appointed for a site in Wardleworth and Taylor Wimpey for a site in Kirkholt.

Continuing the regeneration started under the former Housing Market Renewal programme, Keepmoat will be constructing around 70 new homes for sale at Dean Street in Wardleworth, ranging in size from 2 to 5 bedrooms. The views of local people have already been sought at a public consultation event in April, with the designs of the properties being very well received. Further opportunity to comment will be available when the planning application is submitted in June. The scheme will be adjacent to the new fire station at Halifax Road, which is due to be operational in early 2012.

At Hartley Lane in Kirkholt, Taylor Wimpey will be developing a scheme of around 30 houses, which will have between 2 and 4 bedrooms. As with Dean Street, these houses will be for private sale, the first development of this nature within Kirkholt for many years.
