Heywood secures high profile business relocation

Rochdale Development Agency has attracted a North West construction company, which operates nationally, to a business park in Heywood giving a major boost to the local economy.

Peakway Construction Group will bring all of its companies, currently operating from numerous sites in Manchester, Bolton, Burnley, Liverpool and Blackpool under one roof.

Peakway is made up of Speakmans Construction, Banson Electric Co, Bolton Scaffolding and Holts Decorators which between them employ up to 250 people.

John Barnes, Commercial Director of Speakmans Construction said: “Rochdale Development Agency came to see us and without a shadow of a doubt were the most helpful of all the local authorities we approached. Coupled with the great location close to motorway access, the support we received influenced our decision to move to Rochdale borough and particularly this site in Heywood.”

Peakway provides a total construction service and places a big emphasis on recruiting local trades people and apprentices.

The company hopes the move to Quest Park will create better efficiencies by cutting travelling time between sites and also improve lines of communication.

Keiron O’Neill, Investment and Marketing Director at Rochdale Development Agency welcomed the move saying: “The relocation is fantastic news for Heywood; not only will it give a boost to the local economy, but in the future it will also means apprenticeships and jobs for local people. Rochdale borough offers a great selection of high quality employment sites and we are always eager to get out and meet people who want to find out more about what Rochdale can offer their business.”

On the disposal, Paul Cook from Quorum Estates commented: "We're pleased to welcome Peakway to Quest Park and trust they will prove not only a significant new occupier at Quest, but also in the Rochdale borough. With a workforce in excess of 250 people, this will also hopefully provide a boost for the local economy, something which cannot be underestimated in the current climate. We have now sold around 50% of the warehouse space at Quest Park and hope to conclude other deals shortly."

Peakway plan to start the relocation process in March and have all businesses on the new site by the end of 2009. Quest Park is close to the M66 and M62 and provides modern industrial units ranging from 2,750 sq ft to 7,700 sq ft.
