Rochdale scores high in regeneration projects
Two regeneration projects that Rochdale Development Agency
has helped to deliver have received top praise in independent evaluations.
A detailed end of scheme review of SRB5 found that the programme has been
very effective, delivering real benefits to the local community.
RDA has supported SRB5 for eight years. The programme saw £25million
invested in improving conditions in Smallbridge and Wardleworth, Central
and Falinge, Newbold and Brimrod and Deeplish, which, between them, have
around 31,000 residents.
This area was one of the most deprived in the country at the turn of the
millennium with high poverty levels, unemployment, ill-health, physical dereliction,
poor housing, crime and social exclusion.
RDA has also played a major role in deliver Housing Market Renewal Investment
in East Central Rochdale, particularly through land assembly.
The Audit Commission gave the programme the highest achievement of ‘performing
strongly’.
The report praised the Oldham Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder
for its delivery and impact, its efficiency and effectiveness and its approach
to developing a sense of community. And it highlighted that high quality
new housing is making a positive visible impact on neighbourhoods and people’s
lives.
John Hudson, Chief Executive of Rochdale Development Agency said: “It
is excellent news that projects to improve local communities in Rochdale
are being recognised as making a real and lasting difference. Our sustainable
communities team works with a range of partners to drive transformation and
bring benefits to areas of the borough that need investment the most.” |
