New position to drive forward development of town
centres in Rochdale
Rochdale Development Agency (RDA) has appointed Pat Rattigan
as Director of Physical Regeneration
His main responsibilities will include
promoting physical and economic regeneration, working alongside Rochdale
Borough Council to attract investment, create new jobs and boost the local
economy.
In his new role, Pat will lead the regeneration of priority areas,
including the renaissance of Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton town centres
and those areas being improved with Housing Market Renewal support.
Pat, 51,
joins RDA from Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council where he was Assistant
Executive Director for Planning and Economic development.
The married father-of-two,
is now looking forward to a fresh challenge and intends to use his 28 years
experience in planning and economic regeneration to deliver major investment
projects in Rochdale. He, said “I’m
looking forward to using my skills and experience to help bring about changes
that will benefit the future development of Rochdale,”
“My main
priority is to build on recent successes and to help establish further confidence
in the area so that we can attract more investment and in turn generate more
and better employment opportunities.”
Prior to joining Tameside Council,
Pat worked for Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council as an Assistant Director
for Regeneration and Economic Development. He has also worked as the Head
of Regeneration and Economic Development at Stockport Metropolitan Borough
Council.
Pat said: “Although it is not easy to forecast the effects
of the current economic downturn , in the short term we will have to respond
to the underlying economic challenges. There are current development projects
that will need to be sustained and future projects that still need developing.
“Despite
the economic climate, it is also a good time to think beyond the current
difficulties and plan for the longer term, so that we are ready once the
upturn begins. I think Rochdale is already in a good position to weather
the current economic storm and has the vision and plans to take the Borough
forward. I look forward to helping to deliver them.”
